Help me decorate/modernise these newly made-over armchairs and sofa!!!

Here is the finished product! My very first make-over project :)

The colour of the backrest and the armchair on the left, doesn't look quite right in the photo, must be the lighting on something... But let me assure you, it looks just like regular black leather in real life :)

But now, the question is... How to modernise this antique sofa, and at the same time soften the harshness of black leather?

The problem is, I still don't know where these pieces will end up, so would prefer for the cushions/throws to be versatile, and able to fit in anywhere... if that's even possible?

I generally like white, black and navy. I don't mind a bit of colour, but not too much!

I can't wait to read your suggestions on cushion size, colour, pattern etc :)

Antique leather armchair Makeover Reveal!

And here it is, one of the armchairs painted in black. What do you think? Any tips on how to style it would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking white cushions with black prints, but the armchair is looking pretty black as it is so maybe I should go with some colour? But I'd still like the colours to be as neutral as possible so they can blend in with our future colour choices... If at all possible?

Sneak peak of the antique leather armchair transformation

Remember my antique sofa & armchairs post? Well I finally picked up a paint brush and started painting one of the armchairs. I still have another coat on the leather all over to go, but it's getting there. I hope to get this armchair finished tomorrow, but am still recovering from yesterday so will see how it goes :S

Here is a sneak peak!

Antique sofa & armchairs make over

Mr B wants to order the paint and is putting pressure on me about the colour, for both the wood and leather.

From your previous votes I concluded that ALL BLACK (black wood & black leather) is the way to go.

Would love to hear any further thoughts before I lock this in :)

Would these look better all white or black and white?

Because having these reupholstered would cost an arm and a leg, we've decided to paint them instead. I originally wanted them ALL white ... but as always am now having second thoughts... and thinking perhaps we should paint the wood black and the leather white? What do you think?

I am still unsure as to exactly where these will go (will depend on what they end up looking like I think), and if or  not they will be on a rug or not :(

Say WHATTTTTT!!!!

I just received a reupholstering quote/estimate for our new/old antique arm chairs. It's $1,350 per chair including an average price Warwick fabric or $1,150 if I supply my own fabric.
  • The price includes seat re-build and new foam.
  • Upholstery in same style with deep buttoned back.
  • They would redo the nails OR finish the trim off with a matching coloured gimp in lieu of the nails.
Nuts, I tell you!

Does anyone know where I can buy reupholstering foam from? I don't think MrB will be happy to do this as it looks like even just the materials will cost a fortune, and not to mention how long it would take to do, especially since he is already time-poor :(

Looks like I'll be stuck with just paint :(

What do you think of our "new" antique furniture?

MrB's mum wanted to throw these out ... and when I told him I wanted them... he couldn't believe what he was hearing ...

I was planning on having them sanded, reupholstered and the sponge replaced ... Mr B knows how to do all these things but is refusing to reupholster as he things it would be a "waste of time and money" :(

He has offered to sand the wood and paint the whole thing (including leather). He has painted leather before, so he knows what he is doing... But I am just not sure about leaving the sponge as it is...

Another thing is.... MrB hates the nail heads decorations... What are our options? I guess painting over them would be the easiest? But will it look weird? :S

So what do you think of these? How would you make them over and where would you put them? Depending on how they turn out (???) I was thinking of teaming up the armchairs with a contemporary sofa in our sitting room... What do you think?
  • Three seater
  • 2 x Arm chairs
  • 2 x Side chairs
