I am a HUGE floral fabric fan. If you can't tell I love myself a good floral. I feel like florals open up a world of opportunity in a room and they play off of geometrics so well. Utah County Parade of Homes

Every year I hit up the parade of homes with my good friend Mandy.  I wasn't able to see very many homes this year and to be honest I was pretty disappointed with most of them. There was some really really really bad design. But there were a few homes that I found inspiring.

*I'm sorry but I can't provide sources for these images. I've linked to each builder's website so you are welcome to try asking them*

The first house we visited was a modern home down by Ezra Lee Design + Build

See that green plant wall up on the loft? It's a living wall. The whole wall is succulents and other plant life with a drip watering system and everything! Crazy.

I liked this idea of sliding barn doors that were actually huge mirrors. Really cool.

A library room. One can only dream right?

Two settees a the dining room table is an interesting idea.

I liked a house done by D.R. Horton. They used a lot of Dwell Studio fabric

I thought this arrangement of white vases on the table made a great centerpiece.

We also visited a home done by Cadence Homes designed by Four Chairs Furniture

I really love this little red chair.

The last house I visited was done by Ivory Homes. They always do such a great job and in my opinion have by far the best decorating.

I love the Schumacher Sinhala on the chairs.

Love the botanicals above the fireplace.

Velvet spool chairs? Yes, please.

Then how about this Chiang Mai duvet cover?

I thought this room was really fun and I loved the mix of patterns.

The Story of a Room: The Room Reinvented

If you are just tuning in check out the intro to this series here

So at this point what started out as an almost finished room had evolved into something else. While it's hard to start over on things in a room I'm really glad my client was honest with herself at this point in the process. If she had moved forward with things she didn't love she would have never felt happy in that room.

The room as a whole just wasn't feeling "right" to her. Here are the things my client wanted going forward in the room:
She also committed to herself to stop buying mindless accessories which is something we all do. She would pick up "good deals" here or there but then end up not loving them. So we wanted to move forward with purposeful pieces. Those two Kohl's side tables were great deals but she didn't love them. So we took them out of the plan.

She also decided the rug was a little too "heavy" feeling for the room and I agreed so now we needed a new rug.

She mentioned she wanted more green and a natural feel in the room so I fell in love with this fabric.

It's Kelmscott Manor in Indigo by Schumacher and then I thought it would be great paired with Schumacher's Betwixt.

This was the new board that we were running with.

She had also mentioned loving Hot House in Spark

I wasn't sold on it just because I've seen it used sooooo much but she loved it so we ordered samples of all three fabrics for her to see which she liked best.

I also took a trip to the showroom and pulled some other fabric I liked for the room just to give her more options.

You may remember this fabric from this post here

But after all that she still liked the Hot House best. So I told her just to be sure I would have her go out to the showroom with me and we would look at every possible other option. After going out there we found a green and blue fabric that we both loved with hints of orange and chartreuse.

We both loved the youthful feel of this fabric. It was easy going and breezy. Just what we wanted. So with a new fabric in mind we now had a new plan.

But we still had the issue of the rug! Stay tuned tomorrow for The Story of a Room: Final Details and a Sneak Peak.

New Windsor Smith for Kravet

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a presentation from Kravet at our local showroom with my intern Kayley. They introduced the new lines by Barbara Barry, Candace Olson and Windsor Smith. Barbara Barry and Candace Olson have some really pretty stuff but I almost let out an audible gasp when I saw the new stuff from Windsor Smith!

They are offering the ever popular Riad in a few new colorways. She also blew up the popular Pelagos fabric to a larger scale and created a new fabric, XU Garden. It comes in some really cute colors. I am in love with this pink

I was also super excited to see her new outdoor fabric line! There is never enough outdoor fabric to choose from. These are amazing and I can't wait to use them.

It was so great to see all this fabric in person. Kayley and I were able to pull a bunch of samples for an upcoming client meeting. I can't wait to show you what we found.
